Let us know why you can’t handle manuscripts

Published on December 14, 2021

You may notice if you have declined an invitation to handle a manuscript on the manuscript submission system recently that we are now asking you to provide a reason for this.

We've introduced this feature to better understand the reasons why our editors are unable to handle manuscripts and, in turn, identify ways to improve the editor experience.

When you decline an invitation on the manuscript submission system, you will be asked to choose from 4 possible reasons:

  • It’s not my field of expertise
  • I am not available right now
  • I have a conflict of interest
  • My reason is not in the list above.

If you choose this last option, you will then be asked to write your reason in the box underneath.

And please remember, we only invite one editor to handle a manuscript at a time so we ask that you please respond to invitations as quickly as possible to prevent delays to the peer review process.
